Beginning of a story idea

David didn't realise how close they were.

He continued running until he came to the opening of the forest. He didn't realise what was happening until a branch latched onto his foot. The branch tore away his balance and dragged him deep into the forest. Screaming helplessly, he clawed at the soil and decaying leaves. He reached and grabbed a root and the screaming stopped.

The branch wasn't going to let go. David was it's prey and it wasn't going to give in. The branch gave a violent tug and a snapping sound echoed.

David underestimated the branch's strength and realised the battle was over. Pain overwhelmed him and his hand released the root.

A deep fire ran through his body as he realised something was wrong with his foot. He turned his head to see the branch still creeping up his leg. His foot was wrapped tightly in branch, Bone and blood glinted through the dirt.

His foot was crushed, he was in pain and his fight was over.

Like a limp doll, the branch twisted and dragged him through the forest, a tear ran through his dirt covered face, making a clear path down his cheek.

He had lost the battle but the war had only begun.
